Pre-Purchase Inspection: how we handle it

A used car can look clean and still hide a repainted panel, a stored fault code or a battery on its last weeks. A pre-purchase inspection is an independent check carried out before money changes hands. The inspector works for you, not the seller, and the report gives you facts to decide with or to negotiate on.

The inspection is done where the car is kept: a private villa, a showroom, a used car market. It covers what can be seen, measured and scanned on the spot, plus a short test drive if the seller agrees. For a look at the underside on a lift, the car can go to the workshop if the seller allows it.

What does a pre-purchase inspection cover?

Bodywork and paint thickness, signs of accident repair, engine bay and fluids, a computer scan for fault codes, battery and charging system, AC, electrics, tyres, brakes and a test drive. The underside is checked as far as it can be seen without a lift.

Can the inspection find accident damage?

It finds the common signs: paint thickness that is far higher on one panel, uneven panel gaps, overspray on rubber seals, disturbed bolts and welding marks in the engine bay or boot. A well-repaired minor accident may leave little trace, so the report states what was measured.

What if the seller refuses an inspection?

Sellers who are confident in the car usually agree, since the check takes place at their location and takes limited time. If a seller refuses any independent inspection or a test drive, treat that as information about the car and consider walking away.

Is the battery tested during the inspection?

Yes. The battery is tested for state of health and the alternator output is measured. A weak battery is a small item, but it tells you about upkeep and is worth knowing before you agree terms. If it needs replacing after you buy, we can fit one at your location.
