How it works at your car
AGM and start-stop batteries
Start-stop switches the engine off at every red light and restarts it when you lift the brake. That can mean dozens of extra starts in one Dubai commute, on top of running the AC fan, screens and lights while the engine is off. AGM and EFB batteries are built for that cycling. Standard batteries are not.
In an AGM battery the acid is held in glass-fibre mats, so it is sealed, spill-proof and quick to accept charge. EFB is a strengthened flooded design that sits between standard and AGM. The label on your current battery says which one the car has, and that is the technology we match.
Cars with a battery sensor on the negative terminal track the age of the battery and adjust charging as it wears. After a new battery goes in, the car has to be told. Skip that step and the system keeps charging as if the old battery were still there, which shortens the life of the new one.

Can I fit a normal battery in a start-stop car to save money?
It will start the car, but it is a false saving. A standard battery is not built for constant restarts and deep cycling, so it wears out quickly and the start-stop system may stop working. Fit AGM or EFB as the car was designed for.
What is the difference between AGM and EFB?
AGM is sealed, with the acid absorbed in glass mats, and handles the heaviest cycling. EFB is an enhanced flooded battery with reinforced plates, used on simpler start-stop systems. An EFB car can be upgraded to AGM, but an AGM car should not be downgraded.
Which cars need battery registration?
Most BMW and MINI models, many Audi, Volkswagen, Mercedes-Benz, Land Rover, Volvo and Ford models, and a growing number of others with a battery sensor. We check by make, model and year before dispatch and bring the tool if it is needed.
Does AGM cope with UAE heat?
AGM batteries are sealed and resist vibration and deep cycling well, but no lead-acid battery likes sustained heat. That is one reason many manufacturers mount AGM batteries in the boot or under a seat, away from the engine. Correct charging matters as much as the technology.
