Are Panasonic car batteries made in Japan?
Some are, and others are made at Panasonic plants in other Asian countries. It depends on the size and the range. The country of origin is printed on the battery, and the technician can show you the label and the production date before fitting.
What do codes like 55D23L mean on a Panasonic battery?
It is the JIS code. The first number is a performance rating, the letter is the case width and height class, the next number is the length in centimetres, and L or R shows the terminal layout. The replacement must match all four.
My Japanese-import car has idling stop. Can I use a normal battery?
It is not advised. Idling-stop cars restart the engine many times per trip and need a battery built for it, marked with a code such as M-42, Q-85 or S-95. A standard battery will wear out early and the system may disable itself.
Is Panasonic a good match for a Land Cruiser or Patrol?
Yes, in the correct large JIS size. These engines need high cranking current, and some versions carry two batteries. If there are two, both should be tested and normally replaced as a pair. Tell us the engine and year so the right size is brought.
