How Renault cars treat their batteries in the UAE

Battery technology

Models without Stop and Start use a conventional flooded battery in a European DIN case. Models with Stop and Start are normally built with an EFB battery, and some higher-specification engines with AGM. We read the label on the fitted battery and replace like with like, because a plain flooded battery in a Stop and Start Renault tends to fail early and the system stops working.

Fitting and registration

The battery is under the bonnet on the Renault models common here, usually inside a plastic cover or box that has to come off first. Later cars carry a current sensor on the negative terminal, so jump leads and chargers go on the earth point, not on the sensor. Most Renaults do not need a tool-based registration, but the car relearns the new battery only after it has been left locked and asleep for a few hours. Older radios may ask for a security code after the battery is disconnected.

Does a Renault need battery coding after replacement?

Most Renaults do not need a diagnostic tool to accept a new battery. Cars with a battery sensor relearn its condition once the car has been locked and left asleep for a few hours. Stop and Start can stay unavailable until that happens, which is normal and not a fault.

Which battery does a Renault Duster take?

The Duster sold in the UAE normally uses a conventional flooded battery in a European DIN case, fitted under the bonnet. Case size and terminal layout differ between engines and model years, so send a photo of the label on your current battery and we bring the matching one.

My Renault keycard does not unlock the car. Is it the car battery?

It can be either the card battery or the car battery. If no interior light or dash comes on once you are inside, the car battery is the likely cause. Use the metal key blade stored in the card to open the door, and we test the battery before any replacement.

Why does my Renault radio ask for a code after a battery change?

Older Renault radios lock themselves when power is removed, as an anti-theft measure. The four-digit code is on a card supplied with the car or available from a Renault dealer using the radio serial number. Newer touchscreen systems are paired to the car and usually restart without a code.
