What to know

The Renault Twingo and its 12V battery

Later Renault Twingo model years may have start-stop or a battery sensor that controls charging. Where they do, the replacement has to be the same type (EFB or AGM) and may need registering to the car.

On older Renault Twingo model years the fault is sometimes a corroded terminal, a tired earth strap or a weak alternator, not the battery itself, which is why the charging system is tested before we recommend a replacement.

Models without Stop and Start use a conventional flooded battery in a European DIN case. Models with Stop and Start are normally built with an EFB battery, and some higher-specification engines with AGM. We read the label on the fitted battery and replace like with like, because a plain flooded battery in a Stop and Start Renault tends to fail early and the system stops working.

The battery is under the bonnet on the Renault models common here, usually inside a plastic cover or box that has to come off first. Later cars carry a current sensor on the negative terminal, so jump leads and chargers go on the earth point, not on the sensor. Most Renaults do not need a tool-based registration, but the car relearns the new battery only after it has been left locked and asleep for a few hours. Older radios may ask for a security code after the battery is disconnected.

Before we come

What to send for a Renault Twingo battery

  1. Your location pin, the road and which direction you were heading
  2. The model year of your Renault Twingo (it is on the registration card)
  3. A photo of the label on the battery fitted now, if you can reach it
  4. What the car is doing: slow crank, clicking, nothing at all, or a warning light
  5. Parking level and bay number if the car is in a basement

How it works

From your location pin to a car that starts

Four steps, and you know what is happening at each one. Nothing is fitted until the battery has been tested.

  1. 1

    Share where the car is

Send a location pin with the road name, direction of travel and the nearest exit or landmark. In a basement, add the level and bay.

  2. 2

    Confirm the car details

Make, model and year, plus a photo of the battery label if you can. That is how the right battery gets loaded.

  3. 3

    Get an arrival estimate

We check access and technician availability, then tell you when to expect us before anyone sets off.

  4. 4

    Test, then jump or replace

The technician tests the battery, explains the reading and carries out a jump start or a replacement. The car is started before he leaves.

Questions

Renault Twingo battery questions

Short answers to what drivers ask before and during a battery call-out.

Read all questions and answers

Which battery fits a Renault Twingo?

It depends on the model year and engine. Flooded on Duster, Symbol and Dokker; EFB (sometimes AGM) on Stop and Start models. Send the year and a photo of the current battery label, and we match the size, terminal layout and technology before dispatch.

Where is the battery on a Renault Twingo?

For Renault in general: Under the bonnet, usually beneath a plastic cover or inside a battery box. The exact position on your Renault Twingo can vary by generation, and the technician confirms it from the model year before starting.

Does a Renault Twingo need battery registration after a change?

For Renault: Usually no tool registration; the car relearns after resting locked for a few hours. If your Renault Twingo needs it, the technician brings the tool and does it on site after fitting.

Can you jump-start a Renault Twingo instead of replacing the battery?

Often, yes. If the battery is only discharged and tests healthy afterwards, a jump start is enough. If the test shows it can no longer hold charge, we explain the reading and can replace it on the spot.
