Brake pads wear a little every time you stop, and Dubai traffic gives them plenty of work: short gaps on Sheikh Zayed Road, speed humps in residential communities, long queues at signals. Most pads have a metal tab that squeals when the friction material gets thin. Past that point the backing plate reaches the disc and the repair gets bigger.

This is a workshop job. The wheels come off, the pads and discs are measured, and the calipers and slide pins are checked for sticking. If the car is still safe to drive you can bring it in, otherwise we arrange collection on a flatbed. You are told what was found and what is needed before anything is replaced.

How long do brake pads last?

There is no fixed figure. It depends on driving style, traffic, the weight of the car and the pad material. City driving with frequent stops wears pads faster than highway use. Having the thickness measured at each service is more reliable than counting kilometres.

Do the discs need replacing with the pads?

Not always. Discs are measured and inspected. If they are above the minimum thickness and the surface is even, new pads can be fitted to them. If they are thin, cracked, warped or deeply grooved, they should be replaced together with the pads.

Can the pads be changed at my location?

We treat it as a workshop job, because the car has to be lifted safely and the discs and calipers checked properly. If you cannot drive it in, collection can be arranged and the car returned after the work.

Is it safe to drive with squealing brakes?

A squeal from the wear indicator means the pads are near the end, so book the check soon and drive gently. A grinding noise, a soft pedal or a brake warning light is different: stop driving and have the car collected.
