About the service

AC Gas Refilling: how we handle it

An AC that blows cool but not cold by the time May arrives is often a little low on refrigerant. A car system can lose a small amount over the years through hoses and seals. A top-up to the correct level, with pressures and vent temperature measured before and after, usually brings back the cooling it had.

This service is for a system that still runs. If the AC blows hot, the compressor does not engage or the gas is gone completely, the system has a leak or a failed part and needs a leak test or repair instead. We say which one applies after the first readings, before any gas goes in.

How often does car AC gas need refilling?

There is no set interval. A healthy sealed system can run for years without a top-up. Have the cooling checked before summer, and refill only if the readings show the charge is low. If it needs gas every year, there is a leak that should be found.

Can the AC gas be refilled at my home or office?

In most cases yes, if the car is parked somewhere the technician can work with the bonnet open and the engine running, with some ventilation. Tight basement spaces can be a problem. If the readings point to a leak or component fault, the car goes to the workshop.

Which gas does my car use?

Many cars on UAE roads use R134a, and a growing number of newer models use R1234yf. The two are not interchangeable. The type and quantity are printed on a label under the bonnet, and the technician checks it before connecting anything.

How is a top-up different from a full gas filling?

A top-up suits a system that still cools and is only slightly low. A full gas filling service is for a system that has lost its charge: it is vacuumed, leak tested and recharged from empty. If the first readings show your car needs that, we will tell you.
