How Range Rover cars treat their batteries in the UAE

Battery technology

Modern Range Rover models use a large AGM main battery. Versions with stop-start add a smaller AGM auxiliary battery that supports the electronics while the engine restarts. Mild-hybrid and plug-in versions also have high-voltage batteries, which are dealer or specialist items. Fitting a flooded battery in place of AGM causes charging problems and early failure.

Fitting and registration

Battery position depends on model and generation: under the bonnet beneath a cover near the bulkhead on many Range Rover, Sport and Evoque models, and in the boot under the floor on others such as the Velar. We confirm it from the model year before dispatch. After fitting, the battery monitoring system needs a reset with a diagnostic tool so it stops charging to the old battery profile. Jump leads and chargers go on the body earth point, not the battery negative post, so the sensor reads the current correctly.

Why does my Range Rover keep saying low battery?

The car measures charge constantly and warns early to protect its electronics. Short trips, sitting with the ignition on, and heat-aged batteries are the usual causes. If it appears after a battery change, the monitoring system was probably not reset. A test shows which case you have.

Does a Range Rover have two batteries?

Most recent models with stop-start do. The main battery starts the engine and runs the car. The smaller auxiliary battery keeps the screens, lights and control units stable during a restart. Either can fail on its own, so both are tested before a replacement is recommended.

What is a BMS reset on a Range Rover?

The battery monitoring system keeps a record of the battery state and adjusts charging around it. A reset with a diagnostic tool tells the car that a new battery is fitted. Without it, charging stays tuned to the old battery, and warnings and disabled stop-start often continue.

Can a Range Rover be jump-started safely?

Yes, with the correct connection points. The positive lead goes to the marked jump terminal and the negative to the body earth point, not the battery negative post. That keeps the battery sensor in the circuit. A proper booster pack is safer for the electronics than another car.
