Battery technology

Turbo petrol Jaecoo models use a 12V lead-acid battery, with a start-stop rated type (EFB or AGM) where idle stop-start is fitted. Plug-in hybrid versions also keep a 12V battery for the electronics, separate from the high-voltage pack. The brand is new and fitment has varied by market and year, so the label on your current battery is the reference we use.

Fitting and registration

The battery is under the bonnet, clamped at the base, with a plastic cover on some versions. A battery sensor on the negative terminal is common on higher trims, so jump leads go to the marked earth point. No tool registration is normally needed for the same battery type. Plug-in hybrid versions should be handled only on the 12V side at the roadside; anything involving orange high-voltage cabling belongs at the dealer.

What battery does a Jaecoo J7 need?

A 12V battery of the same technology, case size and terminal layout as the one fitted at the factory. Cars with idle stop-start need a start-stop rated battery. Because fitment has varied, we ask for a photo of the label and bring the matching battery to your location.

Can you jump-start a Jaecoo J7 plug-in hybrid?

Yes, on the 12V side. If the 12V battery is flat the car cannot wake its systems, even with charge in the main battery. A technician can boost the 12V battery from the correct points. We do not touch the high-voltage system; faults there go to the dealer.

Is a Jaecoo battery covered by the car warranty?

The 12V battery is usually treated as a wear part with shorter cover than the rest of the car, and terms differ by dealer and year. Check your warranty booklet first. If the car is stuck now, we can test the battery and jump-start it so you can reach the dealer.

Why does my Jaecoo screen restart when I start the engine?

A voltage dip during cranking is the usual reason. The starter pulls the battery down for a moment and the infotainment unit resets. On a healthy battery the dip is small. If it happens every morning, the battery is probably weak and a load test will confirm it.
