Battery technology

Most recent Cadillacs use AGM, both for stop-start and because a battery mounted inside the car body has to be a sealed, vented type. Escalade needs a large-capacity battery to turn its V8 and feed the cabin electronics. Older models such as the SRX and early CTS often run a flooded battery.

Fitting and registration

Escalade and SRX have the battery under the bonnet. The saloons (ATS, later CTS, CT4, CT5, CT6) carry it in the boot, and XT5 and XT6 typically have it under the cargo floor, so jump starts on those cars use the posts under the bonnet. Boot batteries have a vent tube that must be reconnected. Cadillac does not usually need dealer coding, but the battery sensor has to be refitted properly and some settings may need a relearn.

Where is the battery in a Cadillac CT5 or ATS?

In the boot, behind or under the trim panel. Cadillac moves it there for weight balance. For a jump start you do not need to reach it: there is a positive post and an earth point under the bonnet made for that purpose.

Why does my Escalade battery go flat when parked?

The car draws a small current all the time for security, memory and connected features. A healthy battery handles that for weeks. An older, heat-worn battery does not. If a new battery also goes flat, something is staying awake and the car needs a drain test.

Does a Cadillac need battery programming after replacement?

Generally no. GM cars measure the battery through a sensor on the negative cable and adjust on their own after some driving. What matters is fitting the same technology and a similar rating, refitting the sensor and vent tube correctly, and checking for warning messages before we leave.

Can you replace a Cadillac battery in a basement car park?

Yes. Tell us the building, the parking level and bay number, and whether the gate needs a pass. If the car is parked nose-in and the battery is in the boot, access is usually easier. The technician tests first, then fits and checks the charging voltage.
