The Honda Odyssey Prestige and its 12V battery

On older Honda Odyssey Prestige model years the fault is sometimes a corroded terminal, a tired earth strap or a weak alternator, not the battery itself, which is why the charging system is tested before we recommend a replacement.

Most petrol Hondas use a conventional flooded battery in a JIS size. Newer turbo models with idle-stop need an EFB or AGM battery, as shown on the original label. e:HEV hybrids have a small 12V auxiliary battery that powers the computers and relays, separate from the hybrid pack. The V6 Pilot and Odyssey take a larger battery than the four-cylinder cars.

The battery is in the engine bay and easy to reach. Some smaller Hondas use thin JIS terminal posts, so a battery with standard posts will not clamp properly. Newer cars have a battery sensor on the negative terminal. No coding is needed, but after power is disconnected the idle may need to relearn, one-touch windows may need resetting and older audio units can ask for their security code.
