The Bentley Brooklands and its 12V battery

On older Bentley Brooklands model years the fault is sometimes a corroded terminal, a tired earth strap or a weak alternator, not the battery itself, which is why the charging system is tested before we recommend a replacement.

The Continental GT, GTC and Flying Spur use two 12V batteries: one dedicated to starting the engine and one for the vehicle electrical systems. AGM is the correct technology on modern cars. Recent models add a 48V system for active anti-roll control, which is separate and is dealer work. The two 12V batteries age together, so both are tested and often replaced as a pair.

On the Continental family both batteries are in the boot, under the floor at either side. With flat batteries the boot may not open electrically, so the car is first powered from the designated jump connection described in the handbook. The Bentayga layout differs by year and specification, and we confirm it before dispatch. Later cars should have the new battery adapted with a diagnostic tool. Where that or trim removal goes beyond a safe roadside job, we say so and recommend a specialist workshop.
