On older Mercedes-Benz T2 model years the fault is sometimes a corroded terminal, a tired earth strap or a weak alternator, not the battery itself, which is why the charging system is tested before we recommend a replacement.

The main battery is AGM on nearly every model from the last decade and more, in European DIN sizes. Older cars without stop-start may have a flooded battery. The auxiliary battery is a small sealed unit on many models; some newer ones use a capacitor-based converter instead. Cars with 48V mild-hybrid systems still have a 12V battery.

Location varies a lot: under the bonnet near the bulkhead on many C-Class and GLC models, under the front passenger seat on the M-Class, GLE and GLS, in the boot on recent S-Class generations, and in the passenger footwell on earlier A-Class and CLA. We keep the car powered during the swap. Mercedes does not need BMW-style registration, though a diagnostic check afterwards is good practice.
